Avant-garde futuristic set, check!
New graphics, check!
16:9 letterboxing, check!
A series of transformations for Canada's second major news channel debuted today, and its looking pretty good ... well mostly.
I'll tell you one thing, before this transformation, it actually looked more like a legitimate extension of CTV News (i.e. more royal blue and gold accents with 3D stuff, more orchestral-esque music, a newsroom set). This new look is well, different. It's more light blue and white with "digital streams" of squares and rectangles here and there, and its a lot more more two-dimensional in general. Kinda has more of a HLN-like look now (which well, makes sense since it was originally licensed as a headline news service. However they successfully fought the CRTC to get those restrictions toned down.)
The new logo is also interesting, small-caps? No gold? Their Twitter page just got updated to match, could another CTV News redesign be coming with such a dramatic diversion? I say this since in a previous thread, we had complimented how CTV had managed to build a good brand and consistency around its news operations. It, just makes me go hmm.

I'm liking the new look. The previous look was dated the moment it launched.
And who knows, maybe the rest of CTV News will follow. I do think they want to keep the brand consistent across the board, which explains why they renamed the news channel in the first place. They wanted people to think "CTV NEWS CHANNEL", not "CTV NEWSNET".

CTV Vancouver was simulcasting CTV News Channel in place of their morning show this morning. Yes, they're now producing its programming in high definition ... but there is no HD feed for CTV News Channel yet.
Indeed, it looked pretty fantastic. The ticker font kinda bugs me a bit, but all in all, its pretty good
