WCBS, as expected, debuted their studio at noon today. After the debut, they uploaded pictures of the set construction to their Facebook page.

If you look closely at the blueprints, you can just make out the logo of the set designers: Jack Morton/PDG. The original blueprints also show what appears to be a light-up CBS2HD logo that is not present on the final set. Actually, the blueprint shows a number of CBS2HD logos, which are not present on the set. (The final set uses a boxed-style WCBS logo that has not been used on air.)

The set is designed as a circular design, with home base being the "top" of that circle and different areas positioned around the radius. Desks and backdrops are monitors which can be changed easily. The main set has several completely different skyline backdrops that can be used according to the time of day.

My USB tuner corrupted the recording of the 12pm broadcast, so here is an album of screenshots:

The RP looks awesome at noon, but the 5pm one looks stretched.

It has a very nice clean and simplistic look to it. As crazy as it sounds, even though WABC's set recently debuted, the WCBS set makes the WABC look dated.

I guess the guys really have to wear pants now! And the ladies need to watch out, too.

The only thing that is bothering me is the rear monitor. The image is stretched. Second, I would at least have it looping. Then again, I was spoiled by the rear projection of wnbc's 2003 set. and besides the filtering in the interview/stand up area, everything looks good.

As expected, I love it. And it blew WABC out the water.

This is by far the best news set in New York City right there. Awesome job, WCBS!

I agree. This make WABC's new set second-rate. WCBS nice job!

I like the set and the circular layout.
The only thing that does not look good is the green screen.
It appears there is bright spot light above the Meteorologist which makes their hair to bright and their face have a warm color tone.

What also amazes me are the almost borderless monitors used through out the studio. I barely knew they were plasma screens.

I think the set is fantastic, as I've said before. I hope they pick a different backdrop though for 5/6pm because the Noon one was absolutely stunning:

The drab navy of the evening one doesn't do the set justice.

I like the evening backdrop. Just the stretch of it needs to be modified. But I do like the blend of colors. I wonder how are they going to use the backdrop for Breaking News...
